UBS Warburg has raised its recommendation on the British company Imperial Tobacco, from Hold to Buy with price target revised from 990 to 1150 pence. The broker maintains an Overweight rating on the tobacco sector, estimating EPS growth of 10% until 2004.

According to Lehman Brothers, the corporate profits in Europe fell by 58% last year, but bounced back quickly in the first quarter of 2002. Even if growth were halted, however, profits will increase by 18% at year end. Lehman is particularly interesting second dividends offered by British companies, averaged 3%.
